We will discover PBL, design a PBL module and experience PBL from the learner's point of view. We will focus on 3 fundamental questions:
- What are the main components of a typical PBL module?
- How to write a problem statement?
- What is the role of the tutor? Does our assessment change and how?
Learning outcomes
By the end of the training, the participants will be able to:
- Explain how PBL is different from traditional pedagogy
- Describe the foundations of PBL and its underlying principles
- Specify several conditions that must be met in order to successfully implement PBL
- Formulate a proper problem statement
- Describe the tutor function
- Propose new assessment approaches

Module 1: What is PBL? Participants experience a problem-based learning experience in small, tutored groups from the learner's perspective. |
Module 3: How to write a problem statement? During the PBL process, it is what the students do rather than what the teacher intends that will lead to student learning. Thus participants learn how to create stimulating learning situations through their PBL statement. |

Module 2: What are the main components of the PBL unit? Participants learn (1) what a good problem statement is. (2) How to encourage autonomous work and (3) what kind of information to give to the students and tutors? |
Module 4: What is the role of the tutor and does our assessment change? In PBL, the teacher becomes the tutor who acts as a facilitator promoting autonomous learning. This raises a fundamental question: if we change our approach to teaching, do we still assess in the same way? |

Training sessions are free of charge for teachers from Circle U. universities and CWB institutions. Please note that participants are expected to cover their travel and accommodation expenses.
