True to form, Ports America Chesapeake celebrated Earth Day this year by joining hands with the Baltimore community and donating a 40-foot reconditioned container through the BPA, to the Upton Planning Committee. The Upton neighborhood is north of downtown Baltimore and is developing a formerly vacant lot to grow vegetables and indigo, where the repurposed container will be used to safely store tools. We are especially proud to be involved in this project, which embraces the spirit of community development and provides local residents with employment opportunities in managing the urban farm. Our teams also rolled up our sleeves and volunteered to remove litter from designated areas around the historic Turner Station and assist with gardening activities. #OnePortsAmerica #EarthDay2024

Ports America is conscious of the pressing global climate crisis and is committed to minimizing the environmental impacts of our business by promoting energy efficiency across our operations. We are equally committed to fulfilling what we view as our civic responsibility to contribute to the communities where our employees live and work through local initiatives, investment activities, and corporate engagement. This year, we celebrate Earth Day by planting trees via donation with the National Forest Foundation. The National Forest Foundation works on behalf of the American public, leading forest conservation efforts and promoting responsible recreation. Chartered by Congress, the NFF engages Americans in community-based and national programs that promote the health and public enjoyment of the 193-million-acre National Forest System, and administers private gifts of funds and land for the benefit of the National Forests. #EarthDay2024

Earth Day is every day. That's why Ports America implements various sustainability measures throughout our locations, including solar energy systems, zero-emission equipment, recycling and waste sorting programs, water filtration systems, LED lighting, and other energy-saving initiatives. Ports America participates with GRESB and is in the process of increasing the number of Green Marine Certifications for our terminals every year. As #OnePortsAmerica, we are proud to leverage our strengths in logistics and collaborative synergy for the greater good! Together with our partners and stakeholders, we're paving the way for a greener, more sustainable future.

Our team at West Basin Container Terminal (WBCT) convened for a joint “hands-on” safety meeting this month, bringing together steady foremen and management to reinforce crucial lashing techniques. Terminal Manager Giuseppe Napoli assembled this meeting as a reminder of the inherent challenges our workforce faces daily and to show the importance of a collective commitment to safety.    Throughout the sessions, WBCT steady foremen emphasized the details of proper lashing techniques, recognizing the job's physical demands, its critical role in our operations, and what management can look out for to make the job safer while on the vessel managing the operations.    The WBCT managers got an opportunity to practice and see for themselves the common challenges the lashers face during lashing operations. This was a great example of teamwork and having the power to create a workplace where everyone returns home safely each day.  #OneTeam #OnePortsAmerica #SafetyFirst
